After a very long day . . . leaving for the airport at 7 am, finding out our flight was delayed an hour, flying to Denver, getting on another plane, flying to Atlanta, getting on another plane . . . we finally arrived in the San Jose airport. When we heard our names announced over the intercom at the airport, I knew something was not quite right. We went to the counter to find out that our baggage did not make it and it will not be coming in until tomorrow after noon and then they have to shuttle it to our hotel. After clearing customs and going to the rental car counter, we saw many different rental car attendants but were told that the Hertz desk was closed and that is who we rented our car through. After some very colorful language and a near breakdown, a man in a Hertz uniform came up to us and told us to come with him to their off-site office. We got a detailed explanation on how to get to the spare tire. The man on the airplane said there were lots of pot holes and someone he knew had 3 flat tires in one trip. Consequently I paid a little more and got the wheel and windshield coverage. They also taught me how to put the heavy metal bar on the stickshift so that nobody could steal the car. They advised us never to leave anything inside the car, "not even a baggie". With all of that . . . I was a little scared. Thankfully we got GPS because we made several wrong turns with it so I think we would still be driving around trying to find the hotel if we didn't have it. The money conersion is confusing and we are both tired and stinky and I do not have my toothbrush, a change of clothes or a hairbrush. I hope the next 6 days go much better.

We just read your post... oh my goodness! Nathan said that it seems like you have bad traveling luck. We're so sorry! I hope the rest of the trip goes better. The beaches there will make up for it... once you get your swim suit, of course! You poor things, try to pamper yourselves and take it easy for the next 6 days! Love you! -Emily and Nathan
