Our hotel breakfast buffet friend . . .
Saturday we were going to rent a car and drive around the island, seeing the sights but there were no rental cars and the tours were full. We asked a Taxi driver how much it would cost to take us for a couple of hours and it was actually cheaper than going on a tour. So, we got our own personal tour. We saw a lighthouse, a small Catholic church (we were properly “AT TIRED”- read the sign), some gold smelter ruins, the small & large natural bridge (which is a major tourist attraction, but recently the large one collapsed) and pirate ships. Pirates used to inhabit the island.
We ate dinner at a place right on the beach, where we could watch the sunset. It was awesome!
We got up early on Sunday and took a Taxi to Church. I gave the driver the address on the church website but apparently it was not an exact address. I plotted it as best as I could on our map the night before, just in case there were problems getting there. I told the driver if she could get us to Hospital Street, I could figure it out from there. We got to the street and she made a right hand turn. I told her that we should have gone left but she said, “There are only houses that way”. It wasn’t until she radioed for help that she realized I was right. We were greeted by several sets of missionaries. Some of their home towns were: Spanish Fork, Murray, Brigham City, Orem, So Jordan. That was fun! They love it in Aruba because they say the people are receptive. Their mission also includes Puerto Rico but they all love Aruba the best. We were a little bit early so we got to talk to many members. They were all so nice!!! They came right up and introduced themselves and the women kissed me on the cheek. We felt so welcome there, and then the meeting started . . . luckily one of the missionaries gave us headphones and was translating for us as the meetings progressed.
